Guwahati : The BJP has burnt the Northeast over the Citizenship Amendment Bill. The entire Northeast is still burning up due to the Citizenship Amendment Bill. The criticism that the Home Minister Amit Shah received along with the Northeast Students’ Organization is still agitating due to failure.: Students organisations and other groups hit the streets of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh on Monday against the Citizenship Amendment Bill which is likely to be reintroduced in the winter session of Parliament. Thousands took part in the protest called by the North East Students’ Organisation (Neso), an umbrella organisation of student bodies. In a memorandum to PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah, Neso expressed unhappiness with the Centre’s decision to reintroduce the bill. Neso chairman Samuel Jyrwa said: “We have said in the memorandum that the indigenous peoples of northeast are vehemently opposed to the Centre’s proposal to reintroduce the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in this coming session of Parliament. The entire northeast is infested with foreigners from erstwhile East Pakistan. Politicians have supported them while the infiltration has threatened identity of the region’s indigenous peoples. Many northeast states took the load of Hindu refugees who migrated during the Bangladesh liberation war of 1971. The Citizen (Amendment) Bill is again an attempt to impose the burden of post-1971 Hindu Bangladeshis on the northeast, which is not justified.” Members of the All Assam Students Union marched up to Raj Bhavan in Assam. In Manipur, the Manipur People Against Citizenship Amendment Bill called for a statewide shutdown till Tuesday (from Monday midnight). Protestors clashed with police near Imphal Raj Bhavan. The BJP-led government asked offices and educational institutions to function normally.
