    Mumbai : In its 18th edition of recognizing outstanding services in the field of medicine offered to the needy and weaker society, the Bombay Medical Aid Foundation (BMAF), honoured Dr N S Laud an eminent Orthopedic Surgeon specialized in joint replacement and innovator of fixation devices – with this year Karmayogi Puraskar for his outstanding services offered to weaker section of the society. The foundation established in 1979 with noble ob-jective of helping poor people, has also decided to honour  Smt. Uma Bhasin with the Distinguished Service Award.

    Shri. Sajjan Jindal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, JSW Steel Limited, was the Chief Guest while Shri. Kishore Biyani, founder of Future Group was the Guest of Honour. Various dignitaries were also present during the felicitation ceremony.

    Presiding at the event Mr. Arun K Saraf Said,it  gives us an immense pleasure to recognize Dr N S Laud with this year Karmayogi Puraskar and Smt Uma Bhasin, with Distinguished Service Award. We at BMAF always strive for recognizing efforts of medicinal experts in their respective field, which brings back sense of relief to those suffering from various ailments. Medical profession always carries out a noble cause of relieving patients of their sufferings. Given the rising cost of treating certain ailments, BMAFⳠefforts of encouraging medical professional through such award will go a long way in treating needy and weaker section.

    The Bombay Medical Aid Foundation (BAMF) was founded in 1979 by select social workers, journalists and prominent citizens. Dr D S Saksena was the first recipient of ㋡rmayogi Puraskar.The foundation disburses monetary and expert care to poor and needy patients. Besides a full-fledged 25-bed Swami Shradhanand Hospital at Vasai, the foundation also runs mobile clinic at Mulund. BAMF is run by housewives on a voluntary basis.

    The foundation also arranges regular camps of Cataract, Gynaec, Pediatric, Diabetes, Orthopedic, Cardiac and General Health Check-up. Palliative Care Centre at Swami Shradhanand Hospital provides dignity to the sick and infirm. In 2010 the R. Jhunjhunwala Foundation Eye Centre has been started to provide eye care for the weaker sections of society. Plans are afoot to start Geriatric Care Centre to treat elderly needy people.
