  • Border Issue : Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga has directed the Mizoram Police to withdraw the FIR registered against Assam Police Personnel

    GUWAHATI : The case was registered against the IGP Anurag Agarwal, DIG of Cachar Devojyoti Mukherjee, DC of Cachar Keerthi Jalli, DFO of Cachar Sunnydeo Choudhury, SP of Cachar Chandrakant Nimbalkar, OC of Dholai PS Sahab Uddin and 200 unidentified Assam Police personnel. They were all charged under “attempt to murder” and “criminal conspiracy”. The Mizoram Chief Minister directed the move “to build a conducive atmosphere for amicable solution” to the Assam-Mizoram dispute. The Chief Minister said this step is to reduce the plight of suffering citizens.

    The process of de-escalation begun with first the Mizoram Police withdrawing the name of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma from the FIR. On Sunday night, Assam Chief Minister directed the Assam Police to withdraw FIR against the Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena, as a “goodwill” gesture. Chief Minister Sarma tweeted, “I have noted statements in media by Honble CM Zoramthanga wherein he has expressed his desire to settle the border dispute amicably. Assam always wants to keep the spirit of North East alive. We are also committed to ensuring peace along our borders.” He added, “To take this goodwill gesture ahead, I have directed Assam Police to withdraw FIR against K. Vanlalvena, Hon’ble MP, Rajya Sabha from Mizoram. However, cases against other accused police officers will be pursued.
