  • Converts refinery waste to valuable material, reducing cost and meeting sustainability goals

    Mumbai – BPCL’s breakthrough product received the Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award 2021 (GPEIA) by the Institute of Directors. Considered amongst the most prestigious recognitions on product excellence, the award highlights the company’s commitment to innovation, cost reduction and supporting the environment.

    BPCL’s Corporate Research & Development Center (CRDC), anchored the designing and manufacturing this unique product, first time in India.

    BHARAT GSR CAT is a one-of-its-kind product to re-use spent catalyst generated in refinery’s FCC unit, while distillating the crude oil a valuable catalyst is produced, at a substantial cost.  BPCL secured Patents in India and abroad for subject BHARAT-GSR CAT product and used commercially in refineries.

    Commenting about this recognition, Shri. Sanjay Khanna, Executive Director In-charge Refineries, said “Winning this prestigious award is a matter of great pride for us and recognise the hard work of our scientists, led by Dr V Ravi Kumar and Dr Thota Chiranjeevi, in application of the best technologies to launch innovative products, save energy and reduce our carbon footprints.

    Golden Peacock Awards, instituted by the Institute of Directors (IOD), India in 1991, are now regarded as a benchmark of Corporate Excellence worldwide. The jury comprised environment, health & safety, energy and climate change experts under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission of India and National Commission for Constitution of India Reforms.
