Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare on Tuesday said that Broadband connectivity through Cable TV Network will strengthen the fixed line network infrastructure in the country.
Mr Khare said this at a conference in New Delhi to discuss the issues related to the provision of Broadband connectivity through Cable TV Networks.
He said, at present out of 30 crore households in the country, around 19 crore households have television connection and approximately 10 crore of these have connection provided through Cable TV Network. Mr Khare said, a wide market is available for provisioning internet connectivity through the vast network of Cable TV.
Speaking on the occasion, TRAI Chairman, R S Sharma said, at present, only 7 per cent of internet connectivity in India is through fixed line network while the global average is around 46 per cent.
