BYJU’S has tied up with 4 NGO partners to bridge the educational and digital divide by making quality learning accessible to  children in need

Hyderabad : In an endeavor to provide every child access to quality education, BYJU’S through its Education for All initiative has partnered with Save the Children, Smile Foundation, Ladli Foundation, and European India Foundation to positively impact the lives of 36,000 children in the rural areas and urban slums of Telangana. This partnership will provide children free access to BYJU’S high-quality and tech-driven learning programs.

BYJU’S believes that every child must get equal access to quality education irrespective of their socio-economic background, location and proficiency. After an in-depth location analysis, BYJU’S, with the help of 4 NGOs, identified 10+ slum locations across the state i.e Ranganayakula Colony, Hamal Basti, BJR Nagar, Saket – Kushaiguda, Sanjeev Nagar, SR Nagar, Balkampeta – Ameerpet, Isnapur Road, Koratikal, Kankapur, Rajender Nagar Mandal, etc.

The children that this initiative has impacted come from some of the most economically weaker sections of society, further exacerbated by the pandemic. Their families are daily wage workers, petty vendors, small business owners, farmers, and migrants with little to no means of livelihood or access to education.

Speaking about the initiative, Mansi Kasliwal, VP- Social Initiatives, BYJU’S said, “At BYJU’S we are committed to leveraging technology to bring about positive systemic changes in education. With our Education for All initiative, we are empowering children with good quality education even in their regional languages. With an aim to provide equal learning opportunities and create self-paced learners, we are offering offline high-quality content through pre-recorded sessions to support students who do not have access to the internet. We want to take the transformative power of education to students in every corner of the country and aim to empower 5 million students by 2025.”

A roughly 50:50 ratio of girls and boys in the age group of 6-18 received free access to BYJU’S Learning programs in the language of their choice, which was English or Telugu.

The beneficiary of the initiative, Mounika, a student of class 7 from Aziznagar slum, Telangana, said “Affording online classes during the lockdown was difficult. However, BYJU’S and Save the Children have provided us with learning material that has allowed me to continue my studies. BYJU’S app has recorded videos in my native language which makes it easy for me to understand and learn. The videos are also extremely engaging and simplify complex concepts.”

Ruthika, a student of class 10, from Ganeshnagar Slum, Telangana who benefitted from the initiative said, “BYJU’S has helped me continue my studies during the lockdown period and provided me access to fun and interesting videos that have helped me understand concepts much better. The biggest advantage is that I can attend the class as per my schedule and get real-time doubt resolution. I am thankful to BYJU’S and Save the Children for getting my learning journey on track in difficult times.”

With an intent to provide equal learning opportunities and empower children across all socio-economic backgrounds through tech-enabled learning programs, BYJU’S launched its Education For All initiative in 2020. To further this mission and bridge the digital divide across the country, BYJU’S has partnered with 55 NGOs across 23 states to bring a positive systemic change to the education ecosystem.
