  • Bypolls for two LS constituencies and 51 Assembly seats also to take place simultaneously

    Bypolls will also take place to two Lok Sabha constituencies and 51 Assembly seats in 17 States tomorrow. The two Lok Sabha seats where by-polls will be held are Samastipur in Bihar and Satara constituency in Maharashtra.

    Assembly constituencies for which by-polls will be held are – 11 seats of Uttar Pradesh, 6 in Gujarat, 5 seats each in Kerala and Bihar, 3 in Sikkim, 4 each of Punjab and Assam, 2 each of Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh and one seat each in Odisha, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Pudducherry and Arunachal Pradesh.

    In Uttar Pradesh, polling parties are reaching their respective booths under tight security. Our correspondent reports, Police and security forces have carried out flag March in poll-bound areas.

    In Assam, the stage has been set to conduct bypolls in four assembly seats tomorrow. Bypolls will be held at Jania, Ratabari, Sonari and Rangapara constituencies. Polling will start at 7 am. A total of 20 candidates are in the fray. Around 6 lakh  79 thousand eligible voters can exercise their voting rights at 830 polling stations. Proper security arrangements have been put in place to ensure peaceful polling. BJP and Congress have fielded candidates in all the 4 seats.

    Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, 11 Assembly seats will go to bypolls tomorrow. AIR correspondent reports that polling parties along with EVMs and election-related material have reached their respective booths under tight security.

    In Bihar, necessary arrangements have been made for by-polls to five assembly seats and Samastipur Parliamentary constituency. Our correspondent reports that Jawans of Central para-military forces have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls.

    Bypolls in five Assembly constituencies in Kerala, that is, Vatiyoorkavu, Aroor, Konni, Ernakulam and Manjeswaram are going to polls tomorrow. UDF, United Democratic Font, LDF, Left Democratic  front and NDA are the three major  political fronts in the battle. Barring Aroor, the other four seats are held by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) at present. While the bypoll to Manjeswaram constituency was necessitated by the death of UDF legislator P. B. Abdul Razack, the four other constituencies were vacated after their legislators won the Lok Sabha polls. Over 9,50, 000 voters will decide the fate of 35 candidates by casting their votes at 846 polling stations in the state.

    Counting of votes for both, the Assembly elections and bypolls will be held on Thursday.
