  • Campaigning reaches its peak for 2nd phase of LS polls

    Star campaigners of political parties are on a whirlwind tour of states to garner votes as the second phase of Lok Sabha elections approaches. Campaigning for the phase ends tomorrow evening.

    Ninety-seven constituencies, spread over 12 States and one Union Territory, will go to polls on Thursday.

    In this phase, voting will be held in all 39 constituencies of Tamil Nadu, 14 in Karnataka; 10 in Maharashtra; 8 in Uttar Pradesh; five each in Assam, Bihar and Odisha; 3 each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal; two in Jammu and Kashmir and one each in Manipur, Tripura and Puducherry.

    Addressing a public meeting at Rourkela in Odisha today, BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, the party has zero tolerance towards terrorism while both Congress and BJD have adopted a soft approach towards Naxalism and terrorism.

    Campaigning at Gir Somnath in Gujarat, BJP President Amit Shah said, not only Azam Khan but both Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party should apologize to the crores of women in our country over the alleged remarks against BJP leader Jaya Prada.

    Congress President Rahul Gandhi addressed a public meeting at Bhavnagar in Gujarat. Earlier, he along with his sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi addressed a rally at Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh.

    BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Mahesh Sharma and others are also participating in public meetings in different parts of the state including Mathura, Fatepur Sikri, Badayun and Rampur.

    BSP Chief Mayawati addressed meeting at Aligarh while Samajwadi party President Akhilesh Yadav campaigned at Moradabad.

    Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan will be the BJP candidate from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat. BJP has fielded sitting Gorakhpur MP Praveen Nishad, who has recently quit Samajwadi Party, from Sant Kabir Nagar.

    The party announced another list of seven Lok Sabha candidates for Uttar Pradesh today. Sitting MP from Sant Kabir Nagar, Sharad Tripathi, whose video hitting a BJP MLA had gone viral, has not been given a ticket.

    Notification for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls will be issued tomorrow. Polling will be held on 12th of next month. 59 constituencies spread over seven states and Union Territories will go to polls in this phase.
