  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Sri Lanka on Friday where a high level delegation The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi at the ceremonial reception, in Colombo, Sri Lanka on March 13, 2015.     Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded ceremonial reception in Sri Lanka on Friday.

    Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena welcomed him at the President’s secretariat.

    He was escorted to the venue by a cavalcade which was followed by a welcome by traditional drummers.

    After a warm handshake between Prime Minister Modi and President Sirisena, came the guard of honour and a gun salute.

    Sri Lanka is the final stop of PM Modi’s three-nation tour of Indian Ocean island nations that took him to Seychelles and Mauritius.

    He will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Lanka in 28 years.

    PM will hold summit talks with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.

    He will also hold talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickramasinghe.

    The prime minister’s visit to Lanka is considered to be an opportunity to further strengthen all aspects of the bilateral relationship.

    Just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan government had made two major announcements.

    The one relates to Sri Lankan government’s decision to release 86 Indian fishermen.

    And another relates to the release of the domestic inquiry report by July this year.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief guest this year in the national day celebrations of Mauritius on Thursday.

    Mauritius became an independent country this day in 1968, following the adoption of a new constitution.

    Mauritius became a republic on the same day in the year 1992 within the Commonwealth.

    Mauritius celebrated the day with great fervor and cheer.

    12th March holds a special significance in Indian history as well.

    The father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, launched the famous Dandi March on the same day in the year 1930.
