Nabrangpur, Odisha: Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Ltd (Chola), in partnership with the Royal Commonwealth Society (commonly known as Sight Savers), is expanding its commitment to eye health through the Rural Eye Health Program. This initiative aims to improve eye health related care services in rural areas particularly focusing on underserved communities in Nabrangpur, Odisha.
The Sight Savers is a non-governmental organization with over fifty years of experience in India. The NGO is been dedicated to eliminating avoidable blindness and transforming the lives of individuals with visual disabilities. The Rural Eye Health Program initiative by Chola advances this mission by providing essential eye care services to rural populations, ensuring accessibility, affordability, and quality treatment.
In one month, the initiative aims to enhance the eye health status of Nabrangpur district by screening 2,600 beneficiaries and supporting 400 cataract surgeries. Enhancing eye health will lead to a better quality of life, which will boost productivity and stimulate economic growth.
This initiative will also focus on increasing awareness to encourage the rural population to utilize available eye health services.
This program organizes outreach camps that facilitate registration, screening, diagnosis, transportation, and follow-ups for the community of Nabrangpur. The team conducted eye health awareness campaigns, clinical quality assessments, and workshops along with consultations. These activities ensures that the intervention is comprehensive addressing both immediate medical needs and long-term preventive care.
This initiative builds on the success of similar projects implemented by Chola in Assam, Bihar, and Rajasthan. Now, with its launch in Nabrangpur, the program will continue addressing preventing blindness and promoting better eye health in rural communities. The project underscores Chola’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for the underserved.
