CIE @ IIIT H Turns Ten and in this journey, incubated 200 startups, invested INR 3crore in 30 startups and engaged 17 with IIIT Hyderabad Research Labs

Hyderabad :CIE (Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship) which is part of the IIIT-Hyderabad Foundation  completes a successful decade. The DST approved incubator founded in 2008 with a vision of commercializing the cutting edge technologies developed in its research centres, till date, CIE has physically incubated 200+ startups, invested INR 3 crores in 30 startups and engaged 17 startups with IIIT-Hyderabad research labs.

CIE in its V2.0 now, since T-Hub, has pivoted to focusing on deep-tech startups, seeding startups coming directly out of research, and actively connecting research with startups. It now houses 70+ startups, runs two structured technology based accelerators (one on deep tech, and one on medtech) and is very actively engaged in the city startup ecosystem.

This year CIE has launched a MedTech accelerator program through Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) as well as a Tech4Social incubator for technology based social enterprises approved by NITI Aayog, AIM.

CIE’s portfolio startups have raised funding of INR 50 crores from external sources and have generated 1200+ jobs. It has touched 10,000+ entrepreneurs through its own and different eco-system initiatives started from CIE’s premise. T-Hub, now the largest incubator in the country, was seeded within IIIT-Hyderabad, with CIE’s experience and knowledge being the building blocks. The thought leadership at IIIT-Hyderabad defined T-Hub’s objectives, processes and metrics.

It’s decennial celebrations includeda deeptech startup showcase of 30+ startups incubated both at CIE and the Hyderabad startup ecosystem,and gave an overview of its impact and CIE’s future plans.  A deep tech startup Hyderabad directory was also released as an ecosystem initiative by IIITH jointly with Startup Hyderabad (http://startuphyderabad.com/promising-deep-tech-start-ups-hyderabad)

Invitees comprised of a diverse community including researchers/faculty members, founders, practitioners, investors, CXOs, government officials and other ecosystem partners joined in the celebrations.These included Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary, Govt of Telangana; Big Basket Founder Abhinay Choudhari, RedBus Founder Phanindra Sama, BVR Mohan Reddy, Executive Chairman of Cyient; Srini Raju, MD, Peepul Capital Advistors Pvt Ltd among others.
