New Delhi : Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang attended the inaugural day of Cho Dzo Festival, 2023 organised by Cho Dzo Tourism Festival Celebration Committee at Ravangla, South Sikkim on Tuesday.
Addressing, the gathering the Chief Minister appreciated the organising committee in
setting up this festival which has the capacity of attracting tourist from various places and spoke about how tourism sector is extremely important in our state for augmenting the livelihood of the public alike. He cited the successfull examples of Festival celebrated in the North Eastern States and added that Cho Dzo Lake Festival can seamlessly transform themselves into the likes of this Festival thereby appealing and catering to the various kinds of tourist. Considering this the Chief Minister suggested that Cho Dzo Lake can be open as a tourist spot celebrating tradition, culture, food and lifestyle.
The Chief Minister congratulated the state on being selected by National Geographic as one of the cool place to visit in 2024 in the Globe. On this line he said that Sikkim by 2024 should be spotlighted as one of the must visit place on earth due to the states peaceful and tranquil nature.
Additionally, the Chief Minister encouraged the tourism stakeholders to focus on building homestays as these type of places are self – sustaining. On this note, he informed that the State Government is building 1000 number of homestays based on the architecture of the various communities of the state.
The Chief Minister briefed about the different kinds of projects that the State Government has initiated such as introduction of paragliding, establishment of skywalks at Namchi and Gyalshing Districts. He further highlighted that the State Government will continue elevating the tourism sector by adding several infrastructures which can boost this sector.
At the onset, Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the Cho- Dzo Recreation Centre and “I Love Rabong” display at Ravangla.
The Chief Minister also commended the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Ecotourism(ICHAE) for registering in Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF). This foundation is the apex national body that supports, promotes and regulates national and international climbing and mountaineering in India.
The Chief Minister also met the public in need of medical assistance under Barfung Constituency.
