  • CM lays foundation stone for flyover and foot bridge at Dibrugarh, Assam

     Guwahati : In a bid to ease out traffic congestion in Dibrugarh town, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today ceremonially launched construction works of a flyover connecting Convoy Road with NH-37 under SOPD (G), 2019-20. This 938 meter long flyover will be built within 30 months with a project cost of Rs. 49.21 crore Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that the State government would build a State-of-the-art Convention Hall at Dibrugarh within next five years. He further announced that by relocating Dibrugarh Jail from its present site, a Kalakshetra would be constructed.

    He urged local MLA Prasanta Phukan and district administration to initiate steps in this regard alongwith upgrading the Dibrugarh Library and Auditorium to a modern one. The Chief Minister today also laid the foundation stone of a foot bridge in front of Dibrugarh University under SOPD (G), 2021-22 which will be constructed with a project cost of Rs.621.83 lakh. Chief Minister Dr Sarma on the occasion said that government would sanction additional fund of Rs. 3 crore for adding escalator facility in the foot bridge. He also said that directions were given to health department to upgrade the university hospital with all basic facilities including engaging government doctors and nurses for better healthcare of university students and teaching staff.

    Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today also visited the under construction site of the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex at Khanikar in Dibrugarh town. While taking stock of the progress of works from PWD (Buildings) and Sports and Youth Welfare Department officials, Dr. Sarma instructed to expedite the works in order to complete it within a year. This NLCPR funded sports complex is comprising of an Athletics Stadium, an Indoor Stadium, a Swimming Pool Complex, Practice Ground and Outdoor Courts. Union MoS Rameswar Teli, Minister for Sports & Youth Welfare Bimal Bora, MLAs Prasanta Phukan, Bolin Chetia, Taranga Gogoi, Teras Gowala, Binod Hazarika, Bhaskar Sarma, Rupesh Gowala and Chakradhar Gogoi, Ex-MLA Rituparna Baruah and other state government officials were present during the Chief Minister’s day long visit.
