    Kokrajhar: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal today laid the foundation stone for the construction of Kokrajhar Medical College and hospital at Besorgaon in Kokrajhar.

    The chief minister first carried out Bhumi pujan and laid the foundation stone for the construction of Kokrajhar Medical College and hospital in the presence of Assam Health & Family Welfare, Finance and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, Assam Social Welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma, Tourism and WPT&BC minister Chanan Brahma among others.

    The 500 medical college and hospital will have the intake capacity of 100 students for MBBS degree will be constructed at an estimate cost of Rs 382.70 crore. A total 278 bigha of land has already been allocated for the medical college at Besorgaon, around 5 km from Kokrajhar town. The construction will be completed in 3 year time.

    In his speech, the chief minister said the Kokrajhar Medical College and hospital will fulfill the long cherish dream of state of the art medical college in BTC area has been fulfilled. He expressed hoped that the medical college will be able to impart state of the art medical education using advanced technology to the students especially belonging to BTC area.

    Sonowal said in the two and half years of the BJP led government in the state, the state government has been able to start the foundation of medical colleges at Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Dhubri, Karimganj, Diphu, Tinsukia, Nalbari and Kokrajhar.

    Sonowal said it is because of the love and support of the people that the government has been able to carry out developmental activities in quick success. He said his government has been able to carry out various Centrally sponsored flagship schemes like Ujjwala, Atal Amrit, Ayushman etc which has reached and benefitted the people.

    Sonowal said the government is duty-bound to safeguard the safety, security, cultural, tradition of the indigenous people of the people of the state.

    The chief minister also did not stop from praising BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary saying the Bodoland region which just a few years back was known as violence infested area has now changed completely which lots of development activities. “Under his (Mohilary) able leadership the Engineering College, Central Institute of Technology, University, and roads connectivity etc have taken place. He has been able to take the confidence of all section of people irrespective of caste, creed and religion and carry out development activities, Sonowal said.

    BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary, Health & Family Welfare Principal Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, BTC Principal Secretary Biren Chandra Phukan, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary were also present on the occasion.
