CM lays foundation stone of Anundoram Borooah Academy of Administration at Umrangso

Haflong : Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of state-of-the-art Anundoram Borooah Academy of Administration, Assam at Umrongsho in Dima Hasao district today. This Academy to be set up with a project cost of Rs. 450 crore on a sprawling 1000 bigha land in picturesque Umrongsho is modelled after Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. Once completed, the Academy would be able to accommodate 300 trainees at a time.

Speaking at a programme organized on the occasion by the Administrative Reforms & Training Department of the Government of Assam, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the Academy would lead to holistic development of trainee officers and also cater to the development needs of Dima Hasao district. “Our Government is working to ensure equal development of all 33 districts of the state where every individual gets an equal opportunity to grow. Dima Hasao district which has tremendous natural beauty and precious resources has all the potential to emerge as one of the most developed districts of the state”, he said adding that the proposed Administrative Academy would surely boost growth narrative in the district and turn the district into a tourism hotspot.

Stating that the state government has given special thrust to effective implementation of welfare schemes in Dima Hasao district so that it can achieve equal development as compared to rest of the districts of Assam, Chief Minister Sonowal exuded confidence that the Academy would be able to attract tourists from all over the world to visit Umrangso and Dima Hasao. “This Academy would be built as a world class institution and it would produce high quality administrators of not only Assam and India but of the entire South East Asia”, he said.

Sonowal also urged the youth of the district to take best advantage of the Academy and strive hard to acquire knowledge which would help them to grow as good citizen of the country. He at the same time also made a call to the parents and teachers to motive the youth to take up study seriously and induce them with good moral values.

Further underlining the importance of peaceful environment for growth and prosperity, the Chief Minister called upon all communities of Dima Hasao as well as the people of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong to maintain peace and not to allow any subversive force to disturb their harmonious co-existence. He also urged the people to make best use of the opportunities being provided by the government for development of the districts.

Moreover, informing that a cancer hospital would soon be set up at Dima Hasao, the Chief Minister highlighted the state government’s strong anti-corruption measures which have resulted in transparency and good governance at all levels. He also pointed out that as a result of the stringent steps taken to root out corruption from APSC and other government departments, many youths from Dima Hasao have been able to secure jobs purely on the basis of merit during last two and a half years.

The Chief Minister while throwing light on the success of implementation of different schemes of the government at Dima Hasao informed that ‘Saubhagya Scheme’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been able to electrify 70 percent households of the district, which was as low as 30 percent during the tenure of previous government. Sonowal also said that all government schemes like Kushal Konwar Universal Old Age Pension, Atal Amrit Yojana, Ayushmaan Bharat and all other schemes meant for women, dibyang, adult and the underprivileged are being implemented with equal force and vigour so that the district could script a new growth narrative in future.

CEM of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Debolal Garlosa, Haflong MLA Bir Bhadra Hagjer, Executive Member of NCHAC Samuel Changsan, Principal Secretary to CM Sanjay Lohiya, Commissioner & Secretary of Personnel Department K K Dwivedi, Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao district Amitabh Rajkhowa, Principal Secretary of NCHAC T T Daulaguphu and several other dignitaries were present in the programme.

Later CM also inaugurated the Houseboat at Umrangso which will provide a range of hospitality with memorable experiences to tourist visiting Umrangso.
