COMMON WRITTEN EXAMINATION [CWE] FOR RECRUITMENT OF OFFICERS AND CLERKS IN 19 PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS

by NR INDRAN / INT

With Indian Banking on the threshold of vast expansion, there is a huge demand for banking personnel with challenging career prospects. Here is a unique opportunity for aspirants for bank jobs at the entry level in 19 Public Sector Banks through a Single Common written Examination (CWE).

As mandated by these 19 PSBs, IBPS proposes to conduct only two examinations each for Clerical cadre and for Officers cadre in a calendar year.

A CWE will be conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) as a pre-requisite for selection of personnel for Clerical cadre posts in the Public Sector Banks mentioned below.

PARTICIPATING BANKS

Allahabad Bank Indian Overseas Bank
Andhra Bank Oriental Bank of Commerce
Bank of Baroda Punjab National Bank
Bank of India Punjab & Sind Bank
Bank of Maharashtra Syndicate Bank
Canara Bank UCO Bank
Central Bank of India Union Bank of India
Corporation Bank United Bank of India
Dena Bank Vijaya Bank
Indian Bank

Accordingly IBPS had advertised the first CWE for Officers/Management Trainees (MT) in July 2011.  There was a tremendous response to this advertisement.  About14.5 lakh candidates have registered and IBPS is making arrangements to conduct the written examination on 18thSeptember 2011 at 107 town/cities across the Country.  IBPS is also arranging for Pre-Examination Training for Reserve (SC/ST/Minority) candidates at 62 centres.

The representatives of these 19 PSBs, designated as Nodal Banks for each State are making arrangements to conduct the Examinations and Pre-Examination Training Programmes on behalf of IBPS. In each examination there will be five Objective tests and one Descriptive Paper for Officers and five Objective tests for Clerks, including a test on Computer Knowledge for both.

Since clerical cadre recruitment would be on State-wise basis, candidates can apply for vacancies in one State/ Union Territory (UT) only. It will therefore be necessary that candidates appear for examination in one of the centres of a particular State/UT where they would like to apply for employment i.e. they have to appear for the examination from a centre for that particular State/UT as mentioned in Annexure I. The candidate may also be required to possess proficiency in the Official Language of the State/UT for which vacancies he wishes to apply to be eligible as per the notifications of the Participating Banks.

The detailed eligibility criteria and other conditions are given in the advertisement available on IBPS Website (www.ibps.in).  The candidates will also be required to download relevant Challan copy from IBPS Website for offline payment.

Earlier the candidates were required to apply in multiple examinations for both Clerical and Officers cadre and appear at different locations based on the centre of exam selected by each bank. IBPS conducted all these examinations in 2010-11 for the 19 PSBs in which 45 lacs candidates appeared for clerical and 20 lacs appeared for officers/MT examinations.
