Patna: Controversial RJD leader and strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin was shifted to Tihar jail today. He was brought to Delhi this morning from Patna’s Beur Central Jail by train amid high security.

An armed contingent of around 30 police personnel shifted him to Tihar jail following the February 15th order of a division bench of the Supreme Court. Widow of murdered journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, Asha Devi had moved the apex court to shift Shahabuddin to Tihar jail. Another person Chandrakeshwar Prasad, whose two sons were killed by Shahabuddin had also moved the top court with the plea that Shahabuddin be shifted to any prison located outside Bihar.

While Shahabuddin and four others have been awarded life imprisonment for the murder, charges have been framed against the former in the Rajeev murder case. Shahabuddin was moved out of Siwan district jail on Saturday and shifted to the Beur jail amidst tight security. He was kept there for several hours before finally being brought to Delhi.
