  • New Delhi: Copal Art, India’s leading art advisory art bank, announces the 19th Copal Dialogue on artist Subodh Gupta’s art work ‘Very Hungry God’ on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 6:30pm at the India International Centre Annexe. S. Kalidas, a specialist in modern and contemporary art, will be the speaker and commentator. The talk will be presided by Ashok Vajpeyi, Chairman of Copal Art. The subject of the talk is “Of Capacities and Containment: Very Hungry God and other stories in the art of Subodh Gupta”.

    ‘Copal Dialogue’, organized by Copal, is an ongoing series of regularly scheduled lectures that involves an art critic discussing a single work of art. The goal is to help the audience understand various elements around composition, perspective, interpretation and artists’ inspirations so that one obtains real insights into the artwork. The dialogue seeks participation from artists, curators, collectors and other art enthusiasts.

    Delhi based artist, Subodh Gupta is known for incorporating everyday objects that are ubiquitous throughout India. He is among a generation of young Indian artists whose commentary tells of a country on the move, fuelled by boiling economic growth and a more materialistic mindset.

    Art Critic and son of the late painter J. Swaminathan, S. Kalidas has been an active commentator and participant in the panorama of Indian art for over three decades. Kalidas has worked as a journalist with a number of leading national newspapers, magazines and TV including The Times of India, India Today, PTI-TV, Doordarshan to name a few. He has been twice a fellow of the Department of culture, GOI. He is currently the Director of J. Swaminathan Foundation and is working at researching and documenting the life and works of J. Swaminathan towards a retrospective exhibition and publications in Hindi and English.
