Virtually threatening a pull out, NDA ally JDU on Wednesday said it would be difficult for it to continue in the alliance after Narendra Modi was anointed as BJP’s campaign committee chief.
Party leader Narendra Singh, who is agriculture Miniser in Bihar said the party was not commenting on Modi’s elevation as the campaign committee chief, but “NDA’s prime ministerial candidate should be secular, have a clean and progressive image.
He said JDU will not compromise on the issue of secularism. Final decision will be done by 15th June.
The statement assumes significance as it comes a day after Advani’s decision to take up resignation.
This is being seen as an attempt by JDU to pressurise BJP to ensure that Modi is not named as PM candidate, reportedly also demanded by Advani with Sangh.
Samajwadi Party leader and MP Naresh Agarwal on Wednesday said there exist conflicting issues between allies of both NDA and UPA.
He claimed that third front will form the next government as many parties are seriously contemplating its formation.
Six member expert committee will meet on Wednesday in Delhi to redraft policy for criteria for central grants for backward states.
Meanwhile, BJD is organising a rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Wednesday demanding special category status for Odisha.
The event is also seen as an effort to mobilise regional front at centre.
Party leader Jai Panda said they have sympathies for the third front and odisha interest is a consideration for any decision. He said that his party will keep equidistance from both, Congress and BJP.
