  • Curfew lifted from all parts in Kashmir except Anantnag town

    Srinagar: Curfew and restrictions have been lifted from all parts of Kashmir except Anantnag town after 17 days of law and order disturbances. However, the restrictions on assembly of four or more people will continue in all parts to maintain law and order.

    DIG Police South Kashmir Range Ghulam Hassan Bhat told Air that curfew was lifted from Shopian, Kulgam and Awantipora districts today. He said, the restrictions under Sec 144 in Pulwama district will continue. Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Lone, said that there will be no restrictions in any part of Srinagar district today. Barring BSNL post paid landline, mobile and broadband internet services, all private mobile telephone services continue to remain suspended.

    In Jammu region, the mobile internet services were restored yesterday. Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, said that the orders have been issued to restore mobile Internet services with immediate effect. Fearing a backlash in Jammu region after the start of protests in Kashmir valley, the authorities had decided to snap mobile Internet services across 10 districts of the region.

    Meanwhile, reports of massive protests from various parts of Srinagar were received today. Security forces used tear smoke shells to quell the protesters. Reports said as soon as curfew was lifted in the old city areas people came on roads.
