Thanks to a new initiative, employees of the Arizona Diamondbacks are now eligible for a full-tuition scholarship from University of Phoenix. Through D-backs for Change, employees can apply to receive full coverage to complete their bachelor’s degree at University of Phoenix, positioning them for new employment opportunities within the organization or outside of it.

An Academic Homerun with New Dbacks Scholarship

One of the leading reasons the Diamondbacks organization selected University of Phoenix for this opportunity was  the University’s commitment to practical applications for its degree programs. University of Phoenix’s more than 100 online programs align to over 300 sought after occupations.

D-backs President and CEO Derrick Hall said, “Education should hold practical value, and that’s why we chose to offer the D-backs for Change scholarship through University of Phoenix. We know that they are committed to student success and accessibility, making a college degree more attainable. We are proud to collaborate on this scholarship and bring life-changing support to someone’s academic journey.”

Full-time Diamondbacks employees interested in being considered for the scholarship must submit an essay as part of the process. The eligibility requirements also note that “high importance will be placed on the applicant’s desire to advance their education, with an emphasis on furthering their careers and their impact in the community for which they reside.”

Both the Arizona Diamondbacks and University of Phoenix recognize that college costs can be a barrier for working adults to pursue their higher education. To that end, the University has prioritized scholarships for all eligible students, maximizing eligible transfer credits and promoting Prior Learning Assessments (PLAs) for earning college credit for skills and work experience. There are also no application fees or admission test requirements, and University of Phoenix provides locked-in tuition rates.

The D-backs for Change scholarship offers yet another pathway to make a degree program accessible to working adults. “Scholarships offer significant opportunity and hope to individuals seeking a pathway to higher education,” said John Woods, Ph.D., University of Phoenix provost. “Because we believe scholarships aren’t just for a chosen few, we’re grateful to work with the Arizona Diamondbacks to make more scholarship opportunities accessible to working adults.”

In addition, new students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at University of Phoenix with at least 13-60 combined transfer credits are eligible for a $3,000 Transfer Student Scholarship.
