Mangaldai :: Darrang Superintendent of Police, Sushanta Biswa Sarma has promised stern action against people involved in the illegal trafficking of new born babies in the name of adoption.

Superintendent of Police, Sarma discussed issues related to the illegal practice of adoption and at the same time safeguard and promotion of the legal adoption under Union Ministry of Women and Child Development. SP ,Sarma at his office chamber discussed these issues with a delegates of the NGO Crystal Vision , the parent body running the Govt recognized Specialized Adoption Agency ( SAA) in the district.

The delegates consisting of its hony office bearers Mayukh Goswami, Manabendra Baruah, Manmohan Deka and Chabin Deka apprised Superintendent of Police how the issue of birth certificates through illegal means may encourage illegal trafficking in the name of adoption and also affect the true spirit of legal adoption.

The SP,Darrang was also informed how the legal adoption in the district got a fillip with as many as eight cases since the functioning of the SAA in 2018 against eleven cases in the previous five years as recorded as per offical records available. Earlier on behalf of the management committee of SAA, the district police head was offered a traditional hand weaved ‘gamosa’ and a letter of gratitude.
