    Day 5 Results Tetrasoft Hyderabad Marriott 1st International GRAND MASTER (Above 1700) CHESS TOURNAMENT – 2019

    Hyderabad : On sixth board 2nd seed GM Smirnov Pavel of Russia lost against Hari Madhavan N B of Tamil Nadu – India.

    After seventh round picture is becoming clearer. In race of becoming champion of this event the main contenders are limited GM Tukhaev Adam, GM Mosadeghpour Masoud  and IM Triapishko Alexandr scored 6 points each became leader of contingent. They are closely followed by 8 players.

    At the end of 6th round IM Khusenkhojaev Muhammad of Tajikishtan and GM Tukhaev Adam of Ukraine took Joint lead scoring 5½ points each. They are closely followed by seven players.

    On 1st board, GM Tukhaev Adam of Ukraine opened game with Queen’s pawn moving to d4. The opponent IM Triapishko Alexandr of Russia replied with Nf6. The game converted in Kings Indian defence. They played Yugoslav Variation of KID. The game ended in draw after three times appearing same pictorial position on move number thirteen.

    On 2nd board, IM Triapishko Alexandr of Russia opened game with Nf3. The opponent IM Rathnakaran K. of South Railway – India replied with g6. The game followed Modern defence and the variation is Geller’s system. The game continued till 31st move but position remained equal and both agreed for a draw.

    On 3rd board, GM Karthikeyan P. of ICF opened game with d4. The opponent GM Mosadeghpour Masoud of Iran replied with d5. The opening of game later converted into Pseudo-Catalan opening. Karthikeyan accepted loss at 55th move.

    On 4th board, GM Laxman R R of ICF – India opened game with d4. The opponent Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri of Andhra Pradesh – India replied with e6. The game followed Horwitz defence. The game continued till 61st move but no improvement in position which remained equal and both decided to take draw.

    On 5th board, top seed of event GM Savchenko Boris of Russia played Kings pawn to e4. The opponent Pranav V of Tamil Nadu – India replied with c5 converting from centre open game to Sicilian defence. The later game played in Chelyabinsk variation. In 53rd move Savchenko checkmated Pranav.

    On 6th board, GM Smirnov Pavel of Russia opened game with d4. Hari Madhavan N B of Tamil Nadu – India replied with d5. The game within few moves converted in Stolz variation of Semi Slav defence. Hari defeated 2nd seed Pavel in 64th move.

    On 7th board, GM Vasquez Schroeder Rodrigo of Chile opened game with d4. The opponent Karthik Sai Ch of Telangana – India replied with d5. This is called Queens pawn game. In 2nd move White played c4 offering to go for gambit. The black refused to take playing c6. Thus, opening converted into Queens Gambit Declined and followed Bogoljubov variation. In 60th move Karthik accepted loss.
