New Delhi : Deepalaya, the largest operational NGO in Delhi-NCR, was today adjudged winner of the prestigious “The Most Promising Programme Award” by CauseBecause. The award has been presented to Deeepalya Learning Centre Noida (one of the girl child education projects implemented by Deepalaya at Noida Sector 8, 10, and 16) under the “Quality Education” Category.

Smt. Jaswant Kaur, Executive Director, Deepalaya received the award and the certificate of honour at an impressive award ceremony held at The Lalit, New Delhi.

The Most Promising Programme Award is a CauseBecause initiative that felicitates programmes of not-profit-organizations complementing the efforts of international communities and governments to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and with an eye to create impacting models that can be adopted or replicated for a larger impact.

After an intense evaluation and analysis on the sustainability of their programmes, “The Most Promising Programme Awards” were given out in the national capital on the sidelines of an event “Coffee For Cause”, to the most deserving names in the social work sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Jaswant Kaur, Executive Director, Deepalaya said, “I am happy and proud to receive this award, which is a testimony to the extraordinary work my colleagues have done in implementing the programme titled Deepalaya Learning Centre Noida. I personally thank the jury and CauseBecause team who have recognized our efforts in terms of alignment of our programme objectives with the SDGs.”   

Elaborating further on the impact and outcomes of the programme, Mrs. Kaur added, “This project of ours has been instrumental in effectively shaping the mindset of the community we have worked with in favour of girl child education. The girls who were earlier made to sit at homes by their parents were identified, enrolled at our centres, given non-formal education to bring their learning levels at par with their age, and mainstreamed into government schools later on.  Even after mainstreaming, the girls came back to our centers for remedial education.”

Deepalaya Learning Centre, Noida kicked off in 2015 with support of Loesche India Pvt. Ltd. The idea behind the programme was to identify out of school girl children, enroll them in Deepalaya’s learning centers located at Noida Sector 8, 10, and 16, and provide them with non-formal education and remedial education. Within a period of little more than 3 years, this project has reached out to around 1000 girls living in the slums and streets in Sector 8, Sector 10 & Sector 16, Noida; it has emerged as a beacon of hope for many drop-outs and/or out-of-school children from the area.

For the last 39 years, Deepalaya has been working along the economically and socially deprived classes, so that they become educated, skilled and aware and live a self-reliant, dignified and sustainable life. On the other hand, CauseBecause is India’s most credible medium for the sustainability domain that brings together information and discussion on activities, initiatives and solutions in the development and sustainability domain.
