New Delhi : The Defence Minister Mr. A K Antony has called upon the Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO, to relook at the goal of self reliance in a globlized economy. Addressing the 36th DRDO Directors’ conference in New Delhi, Mr Antony stressed on the need to meet the timelines of the three Services and deliver the best and the latest equipment and weapons system.

Mr Antony underlined the need for synergy between DRDO and the Services while finalizing developmental projects and strategies. The minister called upon the Armed forces to actively participate in developmental programmes, both in management as well as implementation to ensure more indigenous systems are inducted into the defence system .

Encouraging participation by public and private sector in defence production, he said there is enough space in the defence industry for both the sectors to do bussiness.

Speaking on the occasion National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon asked the scientists to focus on reducing critical dependency on foreign suppliers in specialized sectors like defence electronics.
