  • Delhi rape victim responding well to treatment: Doctors

    The condition of the five-year-old, who was raped allegedly by her neighbour six days ago, is gradually recovering and there is nodelhi-girl danger to her life though it will take another two weeks to discharge her from the hospital, doctors said.

    Dr D K Sharma, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS, where she was admitted two days back, told reporters that she is responding well to the anti-biotics given to her.

    “We are trying to control the infection in her body and she is responding well. It will take at least two weeks to discharge her from the hospital,” he said on Sunday.

    The victim has undergone colostomy procedure and surgical care of perennial injuries.

    “She is showing gradual recovery and has slept well in the night. At present her vital parameters are stable. Her colostomy is functioning.

    “She is conscious, alert and talking to parents, doctors and nurses. She is having mild fever which is showing improvement. As such there is no danger to her life,” Dr Sharma said.

    The victim is being looked after by team of experienced doctors led by Dr Sandeep Agarwala from paediatric surgery.

    Asked whether the victim talked about the incident, Dr Sharma said she is very young and does not know what she underwent.

    Next medical bulletin of the child will be issued on Monday morning.

    5-yr old child rape accused to be produced in court on Monday.

    The 22-year-old man, arrested for allegedly raping a five-year old girl, will not be produced before court on Sunday as police have time till Monday to do so.

    “The accused Manoj Kumar of Gandhi Nagar rape case will not be produced in the court today,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said on Sunday.

    Kumar, a labourer in a garment factory in north- east Delhi, was arrested on Saturday by a team of Delhi Police and their Bihar counterpart from Muzafarpur district.

    A court in Bihar had given a 72-hour transit remand to Delhi Police to bring him to the capital. The accused was flown to the capital on Saturday evening.

    In normal circumstances, a person should be produced before a court within 24 hours of the arrest.

    In this case, police have time till Monday to produce him before a court as the transit remand ends on Monday.

    “Police can keep him in custody till tomorrow. They can question him and when produced in court, we can seek his remand. We will ask for his police custody tomorrow in the court,” a senior police official said.

    The five-year-old girl was brutally raped and assaulted allegedly by Kumar while being held captive and starved for two days in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar.
