Mangaldai : “ The demand for Oxygen in the Covid isolation set up of Mangaldai Civil Hospital will be at its peak in next one week or so since the average ten percent of the patients admitted here found oxygen distress . Presently there is no shortage of oxygen , however such situation continues further then we will have to increase our oxygen stock almost by five times .” , said Dr Dharma Kanta Nath , Deputy Superintendent of Mangaldai Civil Hospital while talking to this correspondent .

“ As of now we have more than thirty nos of B type Oxygen cylinder but we will need more such cylinders and we have already placed demand before the district administration for additional one hundred and fifty Oxygen cylinder and fifty regulators for Covid patients and Deputy Commissioner has assured us too .”, Dr Nath further stated . “ The situation of Oxygen distress for patients in this second wave of Covid comparing to the first wave is completely different . In the first wave we could overcome the situation with only four or five Oxygen cylinders and also there was availablity of beds in the medical college hospitals . But in present wave many patients have come to us with a poor Oxygen saturation level . “,

Dr Nath , a senior medicine consultant of the district hospital maintained . It may be mentioned here that considering the alarming Covid situation in the district , the district administration has recently notified the indoor set up of the old civil hospital buliding totally into Covid isolation hospital . The no of beds have also been increased to one hundred and eighteen from forty five . Presently altogether sixty nine Covid patients have been undergoing treatment in the only Covid isolation set up of the district . However the shortage of medical professionals still remains as a challenge for the hospital with only twenty one doctors directly dealing with the patients in both the old and new maternity set up of the premier health institution .
