  • Dima Hasao celebrates 71st Republic Day

    Haflong:  Along with the Nation,  the  district of Dima Hasao in Assam celebrated  the 71st Republic Day of India centrally at the Kendriya Vidyalaya playground near Assam Rifle in Haflong with full enthusiasm.

    Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member (CEM), North Cachar Hill Autonomous Council unfurled the tri colour flag accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Amitabh Rajkhowa, ACS and and Dima Hasao Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Abhijit Dilip, IPS.

    Simultaneously Republic Day was also celebrated in other parts of Dima Hasao including at Maibang sub division where Civil SDO Manojyoti Kutum, ACS unflured the tricolor in the M.E. School field, Maibang accompanied by Maibang SDPO, Sajahan Sarkar, APS

     

    The day’s programme began with the ceremonial flag hoisting after shahid tarpan by the CEM, DC, SP and other guests followed by singing of National Anthem by the students after which the VIP and chief guest of the  programme, CEM Gorlosa inspected the participant contingents.

     

    Addressing the crowd CEM Debolal Gorlosa extended his wishes for the Republic day as well as ‘Busu’, the harvesting festival which is celebrated by the Dimasa community all over the world on the 27th January. He spoke about the developmental achievements by his team of council members and executive members’ team which is benefitting the people dwelling the in the interiors of Dima Hasao.

    Speaking about his achievements, he has acclaimed that the villages like Laisong, Dihamlai which had never dreamt of having proper passage to their villages have now been benefitted with good roads. In the field of education considering the low attendance of school teachers to their duties due to no proper dwelling place for them, quarters are being constructed so that the teachers can concentrate in teaching the students.

     

    Colourful traditional dances were performed during the occasion by various communities of the district. Thousands of people gathered at the venue to celebrate the Republic Day and many awards were also distributed during the ceremony.

     

    A beautiful pipe band performance was presented by students of St. Agnes’ Higher Secondary School. Students of nursing college under the Holy Spirit Hospital, Haflong presented a skit on awareness of ‘Leprosy’ and the students of Girls’ Higher Secondary School presented a skit on ‘Padai zaruri hai’ ( importance of education).

    CEM on behalf of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council awarded a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh to the villagers of Purana Dimainu represented by their village headman declaring it to be the cleanest village of Dima Hasao. Among the recipient of the awards was Hosea L Tulour of Dima Hasao who was among the team that won second prize during recently concluded Khelo India at Guwahati, Surjya Thaosen for his contribution in the field of media and journalism in Dima Hasao.

    A prize of appreciation was received by the participants of the contingents from the VIPS, by the students who sang the National Anthem at the venue. Towards the end of the programme declaration of the winners of the march past was made. St. Agnes’ Higher Secondary School begged the first prize among the contingents followed by Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in second position and Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalay in third position.

     

    The programme was attended by the Executive Members of the Autonomous Council, Members of Autonomous Council and officials from District Administration and NCHAC, Haflong, Army and Assam Police, Officers from various departments, senior citizens, NGO’s, students, teachers etc.

    After the programme at the venue, CEM Debolal Gorlosa along with his council members and executive members in presence of officials laid foundation stone for construction of CEM’s secretariat at the premises of the Council secretariat, Haflong.
