  • Dima Hasao celebrates 74th Independence Day: CEM flags off 3 ambulances and 5 mortuary vans in Haflong

    Haflong: Dima Hasao celebrated the nation’s 74th Independence Day amid Covid-19 pandemic keeping in mind several precautionary measures at the Kendriya Vidyalaya playground, Sarkari Bagan with a crowd just one third of the sitting capacity at the venue today.

    N.C Hills Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa unfurled the national tri -colour in presende of the Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua, ACS and the Superintendent of Police Jayant Singh, IPS.

    CEM addressed the denizens offering warm wishes on the celebration of the Independence Day and thanked all for being together in fighting the pandemic COVID-19.

    Paying rich tribute to all the freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives in order to make the nation independent, CEM Gorlosa also made special mention about Veer Sambudhan Phonglo, in his speech. 

    He spoke at length about the achievements and plans for development in this district.  Mentioning about the setting up of medical college, Bamboo Industrial park, construction of the roads under PMGSY which is the longest in the state, CEM Gorlosa stated that he and his team of Council members are constantly working for a long term benefit for the people of this district.

    He also stated that the council has made a decision to provide pension scheme for the former Members of the Autonomous Council including the Executive Members and Chief Executive Members with other minimum facilities for the CEMs. This has been initiated keeping in mind about the struggle and hardships of the former council members who dedicated themselves for the service of the people of this district during their tenure but face hardships in living once ousted of power in Council.

    During his speech, CEM Gorlosa on the auspicious occasion of the Independence Day, he announced that under the CEM’s relief fund five mortuary vans and three ambulances are being flagged off which will add to a lot of convenience for the people from the far flung areas. Especially those villagers who undergo tremendous hardships to manage mortuary vans in times of death, this facility will, to some extend ease them from adversity of managing vehicles to carry the dead body to the far off villages amidst their emotional turmoil at the loss of their people.

    Expressing his gratitude and appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, health workers, and officials from the district administration, police and defense and all associated in tackling the pandemic Covid-19, he stated that it is because of them that Dima Hasao is still in a better and safer position compared to the rest of the regions.

                Among other programmes during the day that includes meeting the public representatives at the CEM guest house, after the end of the central celebration at the venue, CEM Gorlosa flagged off the ambulance and mortuary vans at the Lal Field near Haflong market.

                Similarly in Maibang Sub-Division, Independence Day was celebrated at Maibang ME School field in the same manner with limited participation from the public due to pandemic Covid-19 where SDO (C) Manojyoti Kutum, ACS hoisted the national flag in presence of  SDPO Sajahan Sarkar, APS .

    In the rest of the district, the Tri colour was hoisted with same fervour keeping in mind the precautionary measures.  No cultural programmes were organized in any of the celebration. Awards were announced for the ‘Protirodhi Bondus’ for their untiring effort and support during the pandemic.

    VIPs at the Haflong central celebration comprised of Chairperson NCHAC, Ranu Langthasa, MLA BB Hagjer, other Executive Members, Members of Autonomous Council and other invited officials from various departments and media persons.
