Power distribution companies owed 92,693 crore rupees to power producers in February 2020, registering an increase of 31 per cent over the year-ago same month, according to portal Payment Ratification And Analysis in Power.

In February 2020, the total overdue amount, which was not cleared even after 60 days of grace period offered by generation companies stood at 80,616 crore rupees, as against 53,703 crore rupees in the same month of the preceding year.

Overdues of independent generation companies amount to over 25 per cent of the total over dues in February. The proportion of PSU generation companies in the overdue was 39.5 per cent.
