  • DocScanner Mac Turns Any Digital Camera to an OCR Scanner

    Published on January 13, 2011

Finland : Norfello Inc. has announced that the DocScanner Mac, a Mac OS X version of the popular DocScanner iPhone scanning app, is now available on Apple’s new Mac App Store that opened for business on January 6, 2011.

DocScanner iPhone is a popular application with hundreds of thousands of users, that turns the iPhone into an OCR scanner. The app allows users to take an image from a paper document using iPhone’s camera and it automatically transforms the picture into a clear PDF document that looks like it has been scanned with a flatbed scanner.

The new DocScanner Mac is a Mac OS X version of the iPhone app. It brings the same functionality to Mac OS X and it now works with any digital camera. Porting the iOS app to Mac OS X allows DocScanner to take advantage of the OpenGL 3D accelerated graphics and fast processor on your Mac. The results are much faster image processing and OCR extraction.

“We are trying to remove all the remaining barriers of going 100% paperless by working constantly to improve productivity and quality of DocScanner. I’m excited to learn how people will gain personal productivity by using this app. We are already working with a new version that will bring a GTD style inbox and automatic page curvature correction that is needed to digitize books,” said Tuomas Rasila, Founder of Norfello Inc.
