  • Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College Hospital & Research Centre Inaugurates its Ophthalmic Surgery Skill Training Laboratory

    Facilitate skill upgradation to more than 700 training sessions for eye healthcare workers in five years

    The Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College Hospital and Research Centre is very pleased to announce the opening of its new inaugurated Ophthalmic Surgery Skill Training Laboratory (Clinic Simulation And Skills Lab). Under the direction of Dr. P. D. Patil, Dr. Bhagyashree Patil, and Dr. Yashraj Patil, the lab will serve as a premier research and teaching facility with a mission that extends beyond eye surgery to encompass.

    Around 500-square foot state-of-the-art Ophthalmic surgical skills lab consists of modular workstations designed to accommodate a diverse range of specialists to advance their skills by working for Cataract Surgery. The space allows training for multiple steps of cataract surgery and management of complications occurring during cataract surgery. The prime goal behind establishing the lab is to train doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff in patient safety skills and to deliver top-notch health-care services.

    Trustee and Treasurer of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College and Hospital – Dr. Yashraj Patil, Chairman of International Society Of Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery Institute – Dr. Amulya Sahu, and Operational Head – Dr. Jagganath Bormani inaugurated the ophthalmic surgery skills lab. Additionally, the CEO, presiding authority, corporate department head, medical officers, Skill lab head, and HOD Eye department of DY Patil Hospital and Research Centre, Pune were also present for the inauguration.

    With the help of the latest techniques, human eye replication can be carried out with the help of ophthalmic technology. The aim of this lab is to produce highly qualified medical professionals through these specialities. And as a result, the trainees will receive expert training for various steps of important eye surgery i.e. cataract surgery. Two surgeons can be trained at the same time. Furthermore, the Help Me See Institute – is a New York Based a non-profit organisation dedicated to eliminating cataract blindness by training ophthalmologists in Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery and ISMSICS is International Society of Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgeons and Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College has come together and signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

    Chancellor Dr. P. D. Patil said, “We are focusing on delivering skill-based education with the medical syllabus, and this skills lab will be fully equipped for the same.” He further added, “The centre will demonstrate our commitment to the continued education of the eye health community by providing chances to learn about the most recent advances in ophthalmic technology. We are dedicated to offering best-in-class training to help influence the future of eye care and give possibilities for the best-possible patient outcomes through our industry-leading educational resources. ”

    Dr. Parikshit Gogte (Associated Professor, ophthalmic disease department, Dr. D.Y.Patil Medical College and research centre) said, “Dr. D. Y. Patil is the third hospital in India, which has this Cataract Surgery Simulator provided by  ‘Help Me See’ and ‘ISMSICS’ is even helping like providing training on simulators physically and taking online training about practical knowledge about cataract steps. The surgeons who will be completing their training in this college on these simulators will be fully confident for  performing operations with the least amount of complications. This will improve patient’s safety and reduce even minor complications occurring substantially.”
