Dr Hrishikesh Pai, Founder and Director of Bloom IVF Centre, proudly announce the installation of Embryoscope 8 from Vitrolife International, the most advanced IVF incubator in the world. It is the first Embryoscope 8 machine to be installed in India. Dr Hrishikesh Pai recollects that almost a decade ago, in 2012, Bloom IVF installed the Embryoscope, the first ever installation of its kind in Asia.

Dr Hrishikesh Pai is a distinguished and one of India’s senior IVF specialists. He is known to have pioneered the foundation of IVF treatment in India. He is the President-Elect of FOGSI 2022 Federation of Obstetricians & Gynecologists of India at FOGSI Federation of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists of India.

His other professional appointments include Gynaecologist and Head of Bloom IVF Unit & DNB teacher at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai; D.Y.Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai; Babies and Us IVF Centre, Opera House, Mumbai; Fortis La Femme Hospital, New Delhi; Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, Fortis Hospital, Chandigarh, Hiranandani Fortis Hospital, Navi Mumbai & Sakra World Hospital, Bengaluru.

IVF treatment treats many associated fertility issues. There are several steps involved in any IVF cycle that improve the chances of a patient becoming pregnant. One of the main steps includes embryo growth and transfer. The two most critical steps at this stage include monitoring the embryos and their growth in an undisturbed environment, following which the embryologist chooses the best embryo for transfer.

During this period, the embryos reach the blastocyst stage or the cleavage stage, i.e. by day 5 or 6, and then they are chosen for transfer. Hence it is vital to ensure that the embryos are placed in a safe, secure and undisturbed environment till the healthiest ones are selected for transfer to the uterus which the Embryscope provides.

He elaborates the Embryoscope incubator monitors the embryos throughout the entire course of development without displacing them from the environment. Their incubator has an in-built camera and microscope, which captures the image of the embryos at an interval of 10 minutes. The embryologist and the IVF specialist can refer to the time-lapse video of the stored embryos spread over five days, during which they are preserved in the incubator.

The installed Embryoscope 8 time-lapse incubator is powered with super advanced Convoluted Neural Network (CNN) based Artificial Intelligence systems. Embryoscope 8 relies on AI to identify the most suitable embryo for transfer resulting in a higher pregnancy rate.

On a personal level, he believes that the Embryoscope enables yielding a higher number of better quality embryos, including blastocysts. He said that influencing factors such as small culture media droplets, reduced oxygen tension, and ultraviolet sterilisation of gas chambers. In addition, undisturbed culture conditions and high-level mechanical engineering of the machine parts contribute to delivering good quality cleavage embryos and blastocysts that too, in high numbers.

For the past 27 years, Dr Hrishikesh Pai and the nine centres of Bloom IVF pan India are untiringly working towards treating infertility successfully and enabling IVF patients to experience parenthood. He believes in doing the best for his patients, whatever the costs involved.
