New Delhi : Era Business School (EBS), one of the most technologically advanced business school located at Dwarka in the heart of West Delhi, organized a unique debate competition ‘Speak Up’ for PGDM students at their campus recently. Students from 1st and 2nd year of PGDM program participated in this debate competition where they presented their ideas point on “should government control social media” in front of the jury and other participants.

According to Prof. Sanjiv Marwah, Director, ERA Business School (EBS), “To get an idea might be spontaneous, but to prove your point is more important. Every individual is inspired by discussions, happenings and other stimuli in the surroundings. An idea may sprout and start its journey to germinate as a convincing proposition in one mind. However, it comes to know its real worth when it is shared with others. This competition is to share that idea and compete to prove that your idea hold waters”.

The competition, which was open to college students, had two stages, round one was on topic mentioned above, and round two was where shortlisted candidates spoke on individual topics given to them on the spot. Some of the topics were, FDI in retail – Will really affect the farmers of India?, Advertising makes people buy products and services that you do not actually need/ need, You have to break a few eggs to make an omellette, Is the controversy on Bofors worth it or does it stands nullified?, etc. A panel of jury members scrutinized all the entries and shortlisted the candidates.

Mr. Abhijit Kumar of 1st year won the first prize, while Beg Raj from 2nd price bagged second prize. A very senior professor, ex- GM-Hr MMTC, Prof. J.S. Subramanian, judged the event.
