Election Commission is contemplating amendments in the People’s Representation Act to deal effectively with the Paid News issue. In an exclusive interview to All India radio, the Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni hailed the Election Commission’s initiative in this direction. She said that a discussion in Parliament is necessary to discuss this controversial issue. Mrs. Soni added that a the report prepared by Press Council of India after discussions with all stake holders will be tabled in Parliament soon and this will form a good base for discussion in the two Houses of Parliament. The Minister asserted that Paid News weakens the basis of democratic system and called for making corporate houses running media houses accountable.
