    Published on October 21, 2010

Eight pro-Taliban militants, including a commander, died in two separate incidents in restive areas in Pakistan’s northwest on Thursday, officials said.

Six Taliban fighters, including a commander named Hakim Khan, were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in was targeted with a remote-controlled roadside bomb in Marinday town in the volatile Kurram tribal region.

Khan was wanted by security forces for several attacks on troops and kidnapping people for ransom.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack though there have been reports of rivalry between militants linked to religious groups in Kurram Agency.

In a separate development, two militants were killed by security forces in Peochar area of the restive Swat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
