  • Emotional intelligence is the key to a career

    Published on December 13, 2021

IQ (intellectual quotient) provides only 20% of success, while EQ (emotional intelligence) provides the other 80%. Emotional intelligence helps to make a career, become a leader, a strong organizer, and acquire associates. Psychophysiologists and psychologists came to this conclusion after studying a large sample of CEOs and politicians in comparison to those who make up the middle or represent failures. In short, the better developed the emotional intelligence, the higher a person’s position. If you develop emotional intelligence, you will be a healthy person, look adequately at stressful situations, be frugal with money, spend money on necessary things, for example, a good trip, study abroad, investing money in business, or do you have to pay back fafsa?

The differences between top and middle managers are defined by just five key components: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skill.

    Self-Awareness

We are talking about two main indicators. The first is an understanding of people’s emotions, weaknesses, needs, driving forces, and the extent that they perceive it. A person with strong self-awareness is not overly critical and has no illusions. This makes it possible to work successfully with the demanding or capricious: subordinates, business partners, politicians…  The second indicator is the ability to play to one’s strengths. High self-awareness helps to assess personal abilities and capabilities, which does not allow the situation to fail. Leaders accurately calculate risks and know when it is worth asking for help. If there are failures, they are seen as learning new skills.

    Signs of developed self-awareness

Understanding of others: their emotions; weaknesses; needs; drive.

Skills: realistically assessing one’s abilities and capabilities; not failing.

    Result: no over-criticism; no illusions

    Self-regulation

Self-regulation is like an internal conversation that frees you from the captivity of a bad mood, plus emotional impulses are channeled in the right direction. This skill creates an environment of trust and creative productivity, reducing the number of protests and antagonisms in the team. Although people who are good at controlling their emotions sometimes seem to be “cold-blooded.” After all, their deliberate words and actions are perceived as a lack of aspiration.

    Signs of developed self-regulation

Skills: saying “no” to a bad mood; redirecting emotions in the right direction.

Result: increased productivity; creating an environment of trust; reduced protest

    Motivation

This is the only indicator that is inherent in all effective managers and leaders because it encourages the team to achieve the goals – personal and corporate.

    Signs of developed Motivation

Skills: to work with pleasure; to be proud of a job well done; to learn and implement new things.

Result: achieving personal and corporate goals; encouraging the team to achieve goals.

    Empathy

Of all the expressions of emotional intelligence, empathy is the easiest to identify. Although this does not mean that a leader is obliged to perceive other people’s emotions as his own and try to please everyone. In practice, productive teams are like cauldrons in which emotions simmer. In a leader-subordinate situation, the word “empathize” is synonymous with “thoughtfully consider the experiences of subordinates” and, depending on the circumstances, finding the truth and making smart decisions.

    Signs of developed Empathy

Skills: Consider people’s experiences; make intelligent decisions; find the truth.

Result: conflict and stress situations are defused; dialogue is enabled; difficult issues are resolved.

    Social skills

It is defined by the ability to communicate and even make friends manage subordinates and partners. Socially skilled people have a wide range of acquaintances and find common topics with representatives of all types of temperament, in addition, have a knack for creating an atmosphere of agreement and understanding. Everyone meets social masters in everyday life, we are talking about advertising promoters, sales representatives, marketers… Such ability in the first persons of enterprises and industries is the most important step to success. Accordingly, this quality is considered key among the five skills.

    Signs of developed social skills

Skills: communicate effectively and make friends.

Result: large circle of acquaintances, creating an atmosphere of harmony and understanding.

    Conclusion

To conclude the conversation. Many people with underdeveloped emotional intelligence improve significantly over the years. That’s just a career that should not be put off for long, and if you want to climb the career ladder, you need to consciously engage in improving your EQ.
