Hyderabad : A 68-year-old man from Saudi Arabia successfully underwent semi-rigid penile prosthesis implantation performed by an expert team of Urologists from Gleneagles Global Hospital, Lakdi-ka-pul, Hyderabad. The patient was diabetic and was under medication for several years. As the medical treatment failed, the doctors decided to go with an implant to treat his erectile dysfunction.

Problems related to ED are very common among men. Mostly, men develop ED as they age and according to a survey, 50% of men with diabetes face this issue in comparison to men without diabetes.

The patient visited with a complaint of erectile dysfunction a few months ago. After all the tests, doctors advised penile prosthesis implantation to the patient as a treatment.  On the second day of his admission, the team of experts led by Dr Malakondaiah C, Consultant Urologist, Gleneagles Global Hospital, performed the implant.

Mostly, the penile implant is suggested to men who are not responding to medication. In this procedure prosthesis which consists of a pair of malleable rods are surgically implanted within the erection chambers of the penis. When it is implanted, the penis always has to be in a semi-rigid position.

Dr Malakondaiah C, Consultant Urologist, commented, “ED is the most common condition found among aged men with diabetes. Patients with diabetes often suffer from various issues, and the best way to avoid such problems is by adopting a good lifestyle. This implant is also suggested to men who have spinal cord injuries.”

The patient withstood the procedure well and was discharged in stable condition on the third day of his admission. 10 days post-surgery the patient returned to his native place and he is happy with procedure.
