  • Upgrad has emerged as the most prolific acquirer in the Indian startup ecosystem this year. It had already acquired many startups in 2021 and is in talks to take over another one. According to two APN News sources, Upgrad is now in talks with Digital Gurukul for a potential acquisition.

    “The talks are underway between the two companies for the past few weeks and have reached an advanced stage. Upgrad is offering a $200 million deal to Digital Gurukul,” said one of the sources requesting anonymity.

    If the deal goes through, this will be the eighth acquisition for Upgrad in 2021. The company had recently taken over Knowledgehut, Impartus Innovation, Rekrut India, The Gate academy, Cohort Plus, Impartus.

    While UpGrad has already earmarked $250 million for mergers and acquisitions already & planning to increase it in the coming months.

    According to sources, Digital Gurukul has also been in conversations with new investors to raise a new round. “The investment talks have taken a back seat in the wake of Upgrad’s offer,” said the second person who also wished not to be named. Sources further said that the contours

    of the deal are almost finalised and if nothing goes wrong from here, the acquisition may materialise in a few weeks.

    Digital Gurukul has declined to offer comment for the story.

    “It is completely false and no such discussions have taken place. We are in the process of getting fresh funding & we are expecting to close the deal in a couple of months,” said Digital Gurukul’s CEO’s Digital Gurukul.
