  • Fête des Vignerons– the legendary wine festival in Vevey, Switzerland is happening this summer!

    Published on July 15, 2019

Bengaluru : With its glistening lakes, lush vineyards and charming towns, the region around Switzerland’s Lake Geneva is becoming more and more popular with Indian visitors. Montreux with the historic Chillon Castle, the medieval town of Gruyères – home of the famous cheese – and the stunning Lavaux Vineyards are all must visit when in Switzerland.

But this summer the Fête des Vignerons (Festival of Winegrowers) will be taking over the beautiful lakeside town of Vevey. Local winemakers organize this festival, which is unique in the world and only takes place once every 20 years. Locals and visitors from near and far join in to celebrate, experience and discover the regions glorious viticulture. The Coronation procession with 6000 participants dates to the 17th century and the festival was the first Swiss living tradition to be included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

Set against a dramatic backdrop of the Alps and Lake Geneva, the 12th edition of the Fête des Vignerons, will run from 18th July to 11th August, immerse yourself in music, dance, colors and most importantly sample the local food and vines, the soul of the region. There is special entertainment for kids and a big animal farm to visit. Vevey transforms into an open-air musical and theatrical scene and every evening a poetic and dreamlike night parade will close the day.

The highlight is an open-air spectacle by 5500 performers. The magical and poetic show tells a year in the life of the vineyard and is performed in a 360* arena with a state-of-the-art LED screen floor.

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and head to Switzerland this July to take part in the biggest wine extravaganza.
