Fiber optic platform for street cabinets

BANGALORE: – Swiss cabling specialist R&M is putting the new distribution platform for street cabinets on the market under the name Street Cabinet SCM. The platform for the street cabinets of telecommunication companies supports the fast expansion of full-coverage fiber optic networks. It broadens the Single Circuit Management (SCM) family developed by R&M and can connect up to 1152 optic fibers in one street cabinet.

With its splice and patch modules, the distribution platform fits into all conventional street cabinets and splitters on the market provided there is enough mounting space. R&M offers to adapt the mounting plates and to provide pre-terminated sets for upgrading. The UNI cabinets from the R&M range are ideal for first-time installations; all components can be assembled directly in the cabinet in next to no time. “This speeds up fiber-to-the-home projects”, R&M point out. The replacement of copper cabling with fiber optic networks can now be carried out more efficiently and profitably at every location. Subscribers can thus profit more quickly from ultra broadband Internet.

The splice module can be fitted as required with up to 48 SC or 24 SE splice trays from the Single Circuit Management range. The trays can accommodate 6 or 24 fibers. The platform therefore harmonizes with modern 24-fiber loose tube cables. At the same time, it is compatible with all other regular cable types on the market. The trays are simply clicked into the module in no time and can be thumbed through in the same way as file cards. Each tray can be assigned to a street, for example, or a building or individual subscribers. A label field with interchangeable labels, numbering and color coding make even large numbers of fibers easier to manage. The parallel patch module accommodates up to twelve inserts with twelve connectors. LC duplex, SCRJ and E-2000TM* are suitable as connectors.

The expansion of broadband networks is currently causing an exponential increase in the volume of installed optic fibers. Network operators need new solutions in order to handle these quantities efficiently and reliably. That is why R&M developed the Single Circuit Management (SCM) program. This modular tray system is suitable for all network areas, from main distributor to building entry point.

SCM allows a uniform approach to the management of fibers and subscriber connections. It supports current fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) market strategies such as point-to-point (P2P) or point-to-multipoint (P2MP) and open access as well as future high power and xWDM applications for ultra broadband networks.

The minimum bending radius of 40 millimeters is one of the outstanding features of the SCM products. The stress-free radius minimizes attenuation losses in the fibers and facilitates easier handling during installation. That has a decisive effect on reliable and loss-free signal transmission over the long term. With the SCM System, R&M is the only supplier on the market to guarantee the 40-millimeter minimum bending radius throughout all network levels even in connection with a high packing density.
