Kokrajhar, July 11: Several villages in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts in lower Assam have been inundated by the rising waters of rivers in spate, following incessant rain over the past few days.
In Kokrajhar, the raising water of Gongia River has eroded several hectares of land at Shikharbil village under Dotma block in Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district forcing people to move to safer place. The river water had already eroded the main road leading to Serfanguri. Over 10 
A Relief camp has been set up at Shikarbil LP school for the affected people due to erosion of bank of river.
Local MLA of 29 Kokrajhar LAC Rabiram Narzary, BTC member Jyatirindra Wary, officials from district administration has visited the area and took stock of the situation.
In Chirang district, due to incessant and continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of neighbouring Bhutan and in Assam, the water- levels of river Aie, Nangalbhanga, Makra, Lankar, Bhur and Champa flowing through the district witnessed rising and caused damages of properties of the people and the government in the northern part of the district.
A total 22 villages were affected by the flood water in Chirang. 4 villages under Bengtal Revenue Cricle= Madarpur, Dababil, Choto Nilibari, Khagrabari; total 6 villages under Sidli Revenue Cricel= Deborbil, Sanyashibari, Nepalpara, Odalguri, Palashuguri, No.2 Odalguri; total 12 villages under Bijni RC No.1 Chouraguri, No.1 Charapet, No.2 Sishubari, No.1 Majrabari, No.2 Majrabari, No.1 Khujrabguri, Manikpur, Choto Amguri, Patalmari, Kunkrajhora, No.1 Chikajhora, No.1 Dahaldanda were affected by the flood affecting over 6060 population in Chirang. The Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) and the district administration in both Kokrajhar and Chirang has been monitoring the flood situation.
