Flood situation grim in UP with major rivers flowing above danger mark

Flood situation continued to remain grim in several districts in Uttar Pradesh with major rivers like Ghagra, Ganga, Yamuna and Gomti flowing above the danger mark.

Parsawal dam on Ghagra river breached in the flood affected Barabanki district.

The threat of floods in certain areas of East Delhi is still looming large as water level in Yamuna rose on Saturday and is likely to increase further due to release of water into the river by Haryana.

The water level, which had crossed the danger mark of 204.83 metres on last Friday, has rose to 205.96 metres on Saturday from Friday’s 205.84 metres.

The neighbouring state had released 80,000 cusec of water into Yamuna on Friday while two lakh cusec of water was released on Wednesday.

Authorities have so far evacuated nearly 2,000 people from low-lying areas along the river and set up 169 relief camps to provide shelter to them.

The city government has already deployed 57 boats, 68 divers and a unit of Disaster Management Force.
