Road to Responsibility, one of the region’s largest and most successful nonprofit organizations supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, announced today that their 33rd Annual “Making Lives Better” Gala, held virtually on Thursday, September 23, surpassed its goal for the second straight year, with donations tracking 5 percent higher than last year’s virtual event.
The virtual format featured live music, a mixologist, and an engaging short video featuring “A Day in the Life of Tammy Ford,” which can be watched on RTR’s Facebook page and directly on YouTube at. RTR staff members and individuals also had an opportunity to interact with ticket-holders, even though it was a virtual event, by delivering welcome kits earlier in the day. The event was broadcasted live from the South Shore Hive in Marshfield, and was emceed once again by Hingham resident Michael Page, who has been involved with the gala for the last several years.
Sponsors for the 33rd Annual “Making Lives Better” Gala include Xerox Business Solutions, Apothecare, VHS Transportation/Patriot Investment Corp., and The Parsons & Benoit Family. Several sponsors and other donors also organized watch parties at their home or office as a way to gather in small, safe groups, offering some feelings of an in-person event.
With last year’s gala being the first virtual fundraising event in the organization’s history, expectations were conservative. Still the event surpassed its goal by more than 25 percent. This year’s event increased giving totals by more than 5 percent and counting. Donations are still being accepted
“This gala was a wonderful celebration of our organization, and all that we have overcome over the last year, said Christopher White, Ed.D., CEO of Road to Responsibility. “Our staff really outdid themselves with the planning and dedication to make this event such a success – they elevated the gala beyond just a virtual experience, with watch parties, a live broadcast, and personal deliveries. We were so happy to see some warm smiles as a result of our welcome kit delivery team, and I think everyone felt like they were experiencing something bigger than just another virtual meeting as a result of these efforts.
