  • National Champion yachtsman Upamanyu Dutta (17) and Arosh Chaudhari (16) won the National Selection trials and with it a berth to represent the country in the 420 Class (Men) for the Boys in actionAsian Games 2014, which will be held in Incheon, South Korea in September this year.

    Also underlining Mumbai’s strong pedigree in the sport was the women’s pair of Diya Correa (15) and Zara Arsiwala, of Cathedral & John Connon High School and BD Somani School, who also won the trials in the 420 Class (Women) and will sail in the Asian Games.

    Upamanyu, a student of Bombay International School, has recently teamed up with Arosh Chaudhari (16) from Poddar International School and they turned up a sterling performance to come up trumps among the six best invited teams from the country to win the just concluded National Selection Trials jeld at Vishakapatnam.

    All the four young sailors are from the Royal Bombay Yacht Club and in preparations for the Asian Games will be taking part in various championships in Europe, including the World Sailing Championships in Germany.

    The National Trials were held at Vishakhapatnam where the strong sea and wind conditions closely resembled the conditions expected in Incheon. The pair of Upamanyu and Arosh were hampered by damage to their boat during racing but were able to demonstrate their clear superiority in skill and experience, which helped them run away as clear winners.
