  • Fresh Flood Hits Gogamukh,Assam Flood, Death Toll Reaches 24

    Guwahati : Though the flood situation in Assam has improved, death toll in the state has reached 24. Two deaths has been reported from Cachar district and one from Karimganj district, taking the toll from 21 to 24.It may be mentioned here that around 65 lakh people had been affected across five districts in the recent wave of floods that hit the state. Nearly, 40,000 people of the state are still taking shelter in relief camps. Recently, a fresh wave of flood has hit Gogamukh in Dhemaji district. The increasing levels of water have submerged more than 40 villages in the area. Water from Jiadhal-Kumotia and Nonoi has wreaked havoc on the villages.The sudden turn of events has spread panic among the people of the area. Torrential rain, landslides and flash floods recently wreaked havoc in several parts of North East India, claiming numerous lives in Manipur, Assam, Tripura and Mizoram. The flood had claimed 24 lives in Assam. However, Hailakandi has taken a sigh of relief as the flood situation has finally started to improve. Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan said that the flood situation has improved and water has gone below the danger mark in all three major rivers.
