  • Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2022: Olivia, Ritika Bag Girls Title; Tejas, Praneeth Book Semis Spot

    Goa’s Tejas Shevde entered the men’s singles semi-finals and is on track for a double crown,while his mixed-doubles partner Olivia Chowgule is half-way there following her triumph in the under-16 girls singles final, at Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2022 tennis championships being played at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias courts-Miramar and at Panjim Gymkhana.

    The annual tennis tournament by Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Goa’s first tennis club, is being organised under the aegis of the Goa State  Tennis Association (GSTA), with support from Gadre Group.

    Four-time champion Tejas, who beat Raju M  4-1, 4-1 in the men’s singles quarters, then partnered Olivia Chowgule for (4-0,3/4) victory over Kamakshi Shanbhag/Shivam Bapat in the semi-finals of the mixed-doubles event. Over in the Under-16 girls final, Olivia Chowgule put in a dominant display to score a 4-1;4-1 victory over Tanvi Patil, who had beaten Stuthi 6-0 in the last-4 stage. Over in the U-12 girls final, Ritika Dawalkar defeated Ahana Patil 4-1 ;4-1to bag the title. Earlier, Ritika beat Twisha 6-0 while Ahana had cruised past Bashuri Chorage 6-0.

    Defending men’s singles champion,  Praneeth V. has also moved into the semi-finals. He got the better of Rahul Singh  4-3(2); 4-2 at the last-eight stage.

    In the ladies singles event, Rebecca George defeated Atika Gaur 6-4 and advanced to the semi-finals; while in the men’s doubles quarters, Kafil Kadvekar/ Ashwin Narsinghani beat Rajendra Godinho/Mano Chhabra 4-3(2),4-2 to make it to the last-4 stage.

    Among the boys U-16s, Saiel Gajinkar looked impressive as he routed Shay Chodanker Walke 6-0 to book a semi-finals spot.

    Other results: Men’s singles – Suraj  Bikkannavar beat Jaiwin Ranjit  4-1, 4-2; Andrew beat Aman Shetty 4-2, 4-1; Doubles : Praneeth Venugopal /Suraj  Bikkannavar beat Nagesh Naik /Shiva Shanmugan 4-0,4-1; Mixed-doubles: Adarsh M/Babita Antony beat Aman Bundela /Wynona Godinho 4-3,(8),4-0; Kamakshi Shanbhag/ Shivam Bapat beat Jassin Chattaram/Hansine Chattaram 4-0,4-2; Tejas Shevde/Olivia Chowgule beat Kshitij Garg/Atika Gaur 6-0; Boys U-16: Ashwin Narsinghani beat Krishna Volvoikar 6-1, Raunak Lalwani beat Aryan Menon 6-1, Saiel Gajinkar beat Siddhesh Khade 4-0, Ashwin Narsinghani beat Raunak Lalwani  4-0, 4-3; Boys U-12: Akshilesh beat Arhan Gaunkar 6-0, Kyan beat Sarvagnya Konnur 6-1.
