Girl gang raped in Tripura, one held

Agartala  (Hindusthan  Samachar):  The State has been ashamed by yet another gang rape incident. The West Agartala Women
Police arrested one of three culprits on Thursday  over complaints of rape of a 20-year-
old girl at TV Tower near AD Nagar  on Wednesday  night.

The victims aged 20, a resident of  Birchandra Manu, was gang raped by three miscreants at TV Tower near AD Nagar last
night after her kidnapping from Nagerjala Bus Stand under West Agartala Women
Police Station limit at around 10.30 pm. The injured girl approached Police and
narrated the nightmare she experienced during hours of captivity.

We have arrested one rapist- Litan Dey (27) and search is on for rest two. We
have acted on basis of complaint received from the victim, said West Agartala
Women Police over telephone. Police also seized the vehicle (TR01 B 3951). The
victim, who went to Indranagar to attend her elder sister, was returning to
Bishalgarh. On her way, she was picked up by a vehicle at Nagerjala Bus Stand. The
driver rang two of his cohorts and stopped the vehicle near TV Tower, AD Nagar.
Then, two of his buddies joined the team and raped the girl. During captivity the
girl was tortured and gang raped by the trio. She somehow managed to save her
life. She underwent a medical test. Police also recorded her statement. A case was
registered against the culprits under IPC Section 376 (D) and other stringent
acts.
Earlier, incident of gang rape of a housewife in Murapara before the Lok Sabha
elections snowballed into a major political issue. Police arrested the mastermind
in that rape incident. Incidents of all sort of crime, mainly rape, are
recurrently occurring against women in the state. The National Crime Record Bureau
in its last annual report listed the incidents. Triprua Commission for Women also
expressed serious concern over complaints of gang rape of girls. In each spots,
the Commission has been sending a fact finding team.
