Mumbai: The CLEAR Global Scalp Analysis Survey unveiled today in Mumbai shows that nearly 70% of Indian consumers polled have suffered from dandruff in the past 12 months. According to this global survey conducted by the CLEAR Paris Institute, the highest occurrence of dandruff in India is among young adults aged 18 to 30.

This is the first-of-its-kind global scalp analysis survey involving participants from Brazil, Mexico, India, China, Russia, Germany, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. This report presents a global perspective on general consumers’ perception and attitude towards scalp care and hair concerns. The survey also showed a strong consumer preference for permanent dandruff removal.  Confidence is the most commonly cited emotional benefit followed by attraction, on complete removal of dandruff.

Clinical research shows that dandruff and other scalp problems like dryness originate deep under the scalp. Washing away visible flakes on the surface does little to treat the root cause, which is a weak and damaged scalp barrier. Thus, dandruff keeps coming back.

Experts at Clear understand that scalp is skin. Therefore CLEAR has partnered with the world’s leading dermatologists from the International Academy of Dermatology (IACD) to bring the first ever patented scalp nutrient technology –NEW CLEAR with Nutrium 10 to its consumers.

The new CLEAR Anti-dandruff Shampoo with Nutrium 10 has now been launched in India. This was unveiled at a glittering event in Mumbai in the presence of Mr. Rajnikant Sabnavis, Regional Category Vice President – Hair, South Asia, Unilever, Ms. Meena Rajan, R&D Director – Hair, South Asia, Unilever and Mr. Piyush Jain, General Manager, Hair care, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL). Also present was Dr. Aparna Santhanam, Consulting dermatologist and cosmetologist who shared a holistic approach on dandruff and scalp health.

On the launch, Mr. Piyush Jain, General Manager, Hair Care, Hindustan Unilever Limited stated, “New CLEAR is the solution for a healthier and dandruff-free scalp. Scientists and experts at Unilever are constantly working to develop new, innovative technologies and products that will provide the best solutions to our consumers. Nutrium 10 is a technology that took years in the making and is a part of CLEAR’s mission to deliver the most effective anti dandruff shampoo for healthy scalp and hair.”

Ms. Meena Rajan, R&D Director – Hair, South Asia, Unilever stated, “During our tests and clinical research at the CLEAR Paris Institute, it became apparent that male and female scalps had physiological differences. Male scalps are typically weaker, produce more sebum and are more prone to dandruff, while female scalps are more prone to chemical residues and tension. Keeping this at the forefront during development, new CLEAR anti dandruff shampoo is the solution to better scalp, hair and life for those with dandruff in India today.”
