  • Govt lifts ban on cotton export

    New Delhi : The Government today lifted the ban on export of cotton. An official notification was issued today by the Director General of Foreign Trade to this effect, removing the earlier prohibition on export of cotton.

    The notification issued said the Central Government hereby withdraws the earlier notification that had banned cotton exports.

    Commerce and Textile Minister Mr. Anand Sharma had said on Sunday that in view of the interests of the farmers, industry and trade, a balanced view has been considered by the Group of Ministers to roll back the ban. The ban on Cotton export was imposed last week.

    The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had asked the Group of Ministers to review the ban on cotton exports after receiving representations on the issue from various quarters.
